Lady Barbara Hamilton here treated may sometimes have been confused with Margaret Hamilton For the suggestion that it was Lady Margaret Hamilton who married Alexander, Lord Gordon, rather than Lady Barbara Hamilton, see Hamilton Memoirs, p. 118

Lady Barbara Hamilton is the daughter of James, Earl of Arran, and his wife Lady Margaret Douglas. Hamilton Memoirs, p. 118 The Scots Peerage, IV, p. 370 On 14 December 1553 she had a charter by which her father gave her an income from various lands for her lifetime. Lady Barbara Hamilton married Alexander, Lord Gordon, who died shortly after 18 September 1552. The Scots Peerage IV: 536

Second Marriage

Lady Barbara Hamilton is the daughter of James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Arran and Lady Margaret Douglas.[1]

She married, firstly, Alexander Gordon, Lord Gordon, son of George Gordon, 4th Earl of Huntly and Elizabeth Keith, circa 1546.[2]

She married, secondly, James Fleming, 4th Lord Fleming before 23 December 1553.[2]

From circa 1546, her married name became Gordon. From before 23 December 1553, her married name became Fleming.
