About Basil Deaver, Sr
From: History of Washington County Arkansas
by Shiloh Museum, Springdale, Arkansas, 1989
(Benjamin Jackson Deaver story (rootsweb.com))
William Shipley was named for his grandmother, Rebecca Shipley, who married Miseal Deaver in
St. Paul's Church, Baltimore, Maryland, on November 9, 1790.
These Deavers were descendants of Norman French DeVeres. Aubrey DeVere was Earl Of Oxford and lived at Hedingham Castle in England. They were also descendants of John Chew who came to Jamestown in the ship "Charitie" in 1632, of Henry Pierpoint who came to southern Virginia in the ship "Plaine Joan" in 1635, and of Dr. Thomas Wynne, ship's surgeon to William Penn on the good ship "Welcome" to Pennsylvania on 1683.(See Hedman's The Pierpoint-Pierpont, Holcombe's Miseal Deaver and his descendants, and many other sources in colonial history.)
