1790 U.S. Census:Benjamin and Sarah Barber, with their oldest son and daughter, are numbered living with Benjamin's parents Caleb and Elizabeth Barber in Richmond, Washington, Rhode Island. Benjamin's brother Caleb Barber and uncle Samuel Barber are living nearby.

1800 U.S. Census: "Benjamin Barber, son of Caleb" and his wife and their first five children are living in District 14, Washington County, Rhode Island. Benjamin's father, Caleb Barber, is listed on the same page.

MOVE FROM RHODE ISLAND TO NORWICH, CHENANGO, NEW YORK:

According to the death notice of Benjamin's son Benjamin Barber in the Sherburne Newspaper (October, 1879), and according to the Obituary of Benjamin's daughter-in-law Elsie Sweet Barber (wife of Benjamin) in the Norwich-Preston-Oxford newspaper (May, 1890), Benjamin and Sarah Barber moved their family from Richmond, Rhode Island to Chenango County, New York, in May of 1806. They began farming there when the land was still in its wild, natural state.
