According to the death notice of Benjamin's son Benjamin Barber in the Sherburne Newspaper (October, 1879), and according to the Obituary of Benjamin's daughter-in-law Elsie Sweet Barber (wife of Benjamin) in the Norwich-Preston-Oxford newspaper (May, 1890), Benjamin and Sarah Barber moved their family from Richmond, Rhode Island to Chenango County, New York, in May of 1806. They began farming there when the land was still in its wild, natural state.
