• Bishop Heinrich Funck and family came to America from Ibersheim in the Palatinate, leaving on March 21, 1717 and arrived in Philadelphia on August 10, 1717. They traveled with a large group of Palatine Mennonites including Bishop Valentine Klemmer, Henrich Klemmer, Valentine Hunsicker, Henrich Ruth, John Landes, Hans Detweiler and his best friend Dielman Kolb. On August 15, 1717 another ship arrived with 150 Palatines Mennonites. On August 24, 1717 three more ships arrived with another 262 Mennonite passengers.
• Heinrich Funck is listed in Christian Meyer’s last will and testament, in writing, January 18, 1748. It was probated on June 6, 1751. It reads: My Loving Son-in-law the said Henry Funck to be Sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament Impowering them hereby to raise and Levy all my dues and Demands as also to pay the Debts and Legacies herein mentioned utterly revoking and Disannulling all former and other Wills Testa.

Heinrich Funck, by Wikipedia

Heinrich Funck (c. 1697–1760) was a mill operator, religious author and a Mennonite bishop in America.

Heinrich Funck is commonly believed to have been born in the Palatinate region of Germany. No baptismal record is known. He was a descendant of Swiss Mennonites who were expelled from Bern, Switzerland, in the 17th century based largely on their religious beliefs. Funck arrived in Philadelphia in 1717 with his family and other German Palatines, seeking a place to freely practice their Mennonite faith, including Dielman Kolb (1691–1756), who became an early Mennonite minister in Pennsylvania. During 1719, he settled in Franconia Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. In about 1720, Funck married Anne Meyer (ca 1700–1758), daughter of Mennonite immigrant Christian Meyer (1676–1751). They would be the parents of ten children.[3] Heinrich Funck was the grandfather of Joseph Funk and of Jacob Funk, the original owner of the historic Jacob Funk House and Barn.

In 1725, Heinrich Funck built and operated a grist mill on Indian Creek in Franconia Township in what is today Telford, Pennsylvania. In 1738, Heinrich Funck, together with others including Dielman Kolb and Christian Meyer, was instrumental in purchasing land for the Salford Mennonite meeting house. The Salford Mennonite Congregation itself had dated to 1717. He served for many years as bishop in the Franconia Mennonite Conference.

From 1745 to 1748, together with Dielman Kolb, he supervised the translation of the classic 1660 Dutch religious history Martyrs Mirror into the German language. Funck also wrote two German-language religious books: Ein Spiegel der Taufe (A Mirror of Baptism), published in 1744, and Eine Restitution, Oder eine Erklaerung einiger Haupt-puncten des Gesetzes (Restitution, or an Explanation of Several Principal Points of the Law), published posthumously by his children in 1763. Heinrich Funck died during 1760 and was buried in the Delp Burying Ground in Harleysville, Pennsylvania. A memorial gravestone there lists him as Henry Funk.

Kappel (4)

Adam Näf (NF13) and his Anabaptist wife, Kleiann Wäber (?WB5) lived at Kappel in 1588. In 1571 he and two of his brothers had been granted rights to the Sennhof (dairy farm) at Kappel because of the heroism of their father in the battle of Kappel on October 11, 1531. Their grandfather was killed in the battle, as was Ulrich Zwingli, founder of the Reformed Church. The Cloister at Kappel (Fig. h) was begun in the twelfth century, and after the Reformation the farms under its control were sold to the hereditary tenants, including the Näf family.

Hof Buch, Knonau (5)

The cause of the last Anabaptist persecution occurred in 1635 when Heinrich Frick (FR316) from Hof Buch in the parish of Knonau (Fig. i) resigned his office of Fandrich (standard bearer or ensign), to join the Anabaptists. His refusal to bear arms came less than two years after invasion of Zurich territory by the Swedish army, and officials feared others might follow his exam in Kunheim, Alsace, in 1660 when he signed the Dortrecht Confession. His cousin, Jacob Frick (FR334), was a servant in his household from 1634 to 1640, and was an Anabaptist living in Mussig, Alsace, in 1684. He was probably the grandfather of the Jacob Frick (FR3341.1) who came to Lancaster County in 1733.

Mettmenstetten (6)

In 1634 Heinrich Funk (FH1) was married in Mettmenstetten nearby to Cathrina Meylin (ML26), daughter of the Anabaptist minister. They had fourteen children, and some of their descendants came to North America.

Heinrich Funck (d. 1760), a European Mennonite settler who located along the Indian Creek in what is now Franconia Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, about 30 miles (50 km) north of Philadelphia. He married Anne, daughter of immigrant Christian Meyer and they became the parents of ten children, including Preacher Henry Funck and Bishop Christian Funk (1731-1811), the latter being the founder of the Funkites, who withdrew from the Franconia Conference in 1778 because they favored recognizing the independence of the American Colonies before the end of the Revolutionary War. Funck was a farmer, miller, and bishop. He wrote two books, Ein Spiegel der Tauffe (Mirror of Baptism) in 1744, and Eine Restitution, Oder eine Erklaerung einiger Haupt-puncten des Gesetzes (Restitution, or an Explanation of Several Principal Points of the Law), the latter being left as an unpublished manuscript at his death in 1760; his children arranged for its publication in 1763. Funck collaborated in sponsoring the publication of the 1748 German Martyrs' Mirror, and he and Dielman Kolb read the proofs page by page as they came off the Ephrata presses. The origins of the Funk family have been well researched and articulated by Mr. Bly. I borrow shamelessly from him; please be aware that any and all errors be they ommission or commission are my own responsibility. This lineage is believed to have been involved in the early Anabaptist movement in late 16th century Switzerland. Specifically Jacob Funk and his wife Anna Naff were born in Ober Mettmenstetten in the Knonau District of Canton Zurich about1575. Later generations moved to Germany and the region known as the Palatinate where they are well documented in Mennonite historical documents. Their movement can be seen as a result both of their persecution by authorities for their religious beliefs as well as their religious outreach activities. Heinrich Funk (abt 1662) was the first immigrant to the present USA in 1717 having left Bonfeld in Baden and settled with other family members in Strasburg Township, Pennsylvania. Later generations settled in Virginia and then Washinton Co, Kentucky

1717 First Mennonite preacher at Salford and Franconia and bishop for the Franconia conference.

1718 December 20, land warrant to Heinrich Funck of Germantown for 101 3/4 acres on a branch of Perkeawming Creek. Later buys adjoining tracts. Total 201 acres. Also 166 acres "of ye Mannor Lands on ye upper part of a branch of Perkyoming", probably part of Perkasie Manor, Hilltown Twp, Bucks Co, PA willed to son Henry.

1719 Settled at Indian Creek, Franconia Twp, Montgomery Co. PA

1738 Henry Funck, Dielman Kolb, Christian Meyer, Jr & Abraham Reiff, deacons, purchased land for Mennonite meetinghouse in Salford

1749 Operated first grist mill on Indian Creek in Franconia Township

1759 Will filed in Philadelphia in Will No. 274, S427 dated 13 June 1759. Translated in A.J. Fretz pp. 13-20 and Frances Funck pp. 41-47

1760 Died at Indian Creek, Franconia Twp, Montgomery, PA

1760 After the death of Funk which occurred in 1760, the executors John and Christian Funk, sold this tract in 1761 to Jacob Bear, a son-in-law of Henry Funk, who sold in 1763 to John Yellis, of Towamencin township. Funk was never naturalized and Bear also refused to be naturalized. He therefore procured a patent and then sold it the same year to George Kriebel, of Upper Milford who sold it to Daniel Rosenberger in 1769.

Henry built the first mill on Indian Creek. He was well educated for the time and became a Bishop in the Moravian Church

Said to have arrived with best friend Dielman Kolb, who landed 10 Aug 1717. Often confused with another Heinnrich Funk who arrived in 1717 and settled in Lancaster Co, PA.
