About Blackie Dammit
DAMMETT, BLACKIE Formerly John Michael Kiedis, 12/7/1939 - 5/12/2021
After a wild and great journey, Blackie, formerly of Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is survived by his son, Anthony Kiedis, and grandson, Everly Kiedis. Blackie is also survived by his sisters, Kathy (CT) Snyder, Mary Kiedis Keough, Liz Detter, and Janice Walker, brothers, Tommy (Shannan) Kiedis and Rick (Kiki) Bosworth, several nieces and nephews, and his former wife, Peggy Idema, and her daughters, Julie Simmons and Jennifer Lutz. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eileen Kiedis, Mollie and Ted Walker, his sisters, Jeanne Kiedis, Judy Kiedis Moore, and his brother, Bobby Kiedis. Blackie graduated with high honors from UCLA and studied acting with Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. He performed in numerous movies, TV shows and plays over the years, including the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre. One of Blackie's most memorable achievements was being the Head Honcho of his son's band's fan club, Rockinfreakapotamus. Many thanks to Blackie's closest friends and the members of Rockinfreakapotamus, who continued to visit him/write to him during his final years. Also, special thanks to the volunteers of Hospice of Michigan. Blackie is now dancing with the celestials, a much better place for him to be.
