The Library of Congress Digital Archives has an image of a plat survey created and annotated by George Washington, for William Hughes Junr., dated 4 APR 1750. The survey describes 460 acres, with the "Cacapehon" River running through the parcel, in Frederick County VA, adjoining the land of William Hughes Senr. Also noted: "deed drawn 1753".

Thomas Hughes and his wife Susannah, [daughter of Robert and Susannah Packer Baker], conveyed, via lease and release deeds, his Hampshire County land grant described above to Henry Fry [aka Henry Markley Frye, 1724-1812] in two parcels: 219 acres on February 12, 1759, and the remaining 200 acres on June 8, 1761. There is also a "lease and release" deed for 200 acres on the Great Cape Capon, granted by Thomas and his wife Susannah Hughes to Henry Fry, on 9 MAY 1763. Hugh Hughes also sold a portion of his land grant to Henry Fry on 9 MAR 1772. [Thomas and Susannah Hughes went on to settle on Hacker's Creek about 1773.]

Sarah's father, Captain Thomas Hughes, was killed by Indians at Hacker's Creek, Monongalia County VA, now WV, on May 4, 1778. She and her husband with her siblings and their families became quite famous as first settlers of what became central West Virginia.
