Caradoc Freichfras ap Llyr o Gwynedd was born after 450.
He was lord of Gloucester in right of his father, was grandson of Brychan Brecheiniog, prince and lord of Brecknock. Supposedly, he was a contemporary with King Arthur, who lived about the year 400, one of the knights of his Round Table and lord keeper of "y Castell Dolorus" or the Dolorous Tower.
Caradog Vreichvras, or Cradoc Fraich Fras, means Cradoc "with the strong arm." He was also called Caradog Fawr. He also went by the name of Caradog "the Elder" (Fawr = the Elder).
