About Catalina de Villanueva
Catalina was probably all or part Mexican Native America. The HGRC data base give Chief Don Joseph as her father. She came to New México with her husband Juan López Olguín.
Chief Don Joseph was the chief leader of Tepeaca. After the conquest some conquistador's married Indian princesses and daughters of Chiefs. " Indeed the conquerors understood the fact that the indigenous nobility endowed the daughters in a similar manner that to the Spanish practices, a fast method to acquire property and status".
She married Cpt. Juan Lopez Holguin and accompanied him to Santa Fe in 1600.
