Charles, sire de Montmorency, d Ecouen etc., chevalier, conseiller et chambellan du roi, panetier de France et gouverneur de Picardie, fut honoré de la charge de maréchal de France en 1343 ou 1344 et eut la conduite de l armée que Jean, duc de Normandie mena en Bretagne au secours de Charles de Blois son cousin en 1344. Il accompagna ce prince en Guyenne contre le comte d Erby en 1345 et se comporta vaillamment à la bataille de Crécy en 1346, fut établi gouverneur de Picardie, où il défit Oudart, bâtard de Rency en 1348, moyenna l accommodement de Charles le mauvais, roi de Navarre, avec Charles de France, duc de Normandie en 1358 et fut un des grands du royaume qui conclurent le traité de Bretigny avec le roi d Angleterre le 8 mai 1360. Il fut parrain du roi Charles VI, mourut le 11 septembre 1381 et fut enterré en l église de l abbaye du Val.

h. He has valiantly at the battle of Crécy in 1348, defeated the Flemings near Quesnoy, in 1348.

i. In 1358, the Castle of Montmorency is ravaged by the English; Montmorency will settle in Écouen.

j. It is one of the great lords of the kingdom which conclude the Treaty of Brétigny with the King of England in 1360. It is part of the forty prisoners requested by the king of England.

k. Charles de Montmorency went to London, and soon after, he agrees to pay a quarter of a sum of 200,000 gold crowns for the ransom of King John; he has to sell part of its assets, including the hotel he owned in Paris.

l. In 1364 he became advisor to King Charles V; in 1365, he was chosen as godfather of the future King Charles VI-Ingestuur Ds. MG Müller.
