Charles Utterback was born on May 8, 1769 in Germantown, Fauquier County, Virginia, Colonial America. His parents were Johann Henrich Otterbach and Agnes Otterbach (Brumbach).

Charles married Jemima Whitson Utterback (Nelson) on September 7, 1789 in Fauquier County, Virginia, United States. Together they had the following 9 known children:

2. Joel Utterback;
3. Margaret "Peggy" Riggs (Utterback);
4. Nelson Utterback;
5. Sarah "Sallie" Bond (Utterback);
6. Lucinda Waterfill (Utterback);

9. Elizabeth Ann Orr (Utterback).

He died on February 14, 1843 in Anderson County, Kentucky, United States.
