About Charlotte Crapp
Captain Arthur Algernon Crapp was born in France in 1844 to Samuel and Charlotte Crapp (nee Field). When he came to New Zealand he fought in the New Zealand Wars, being a member of the Armed Constabulary. He later worked as a surveyor. In Auckland on 28 February 1828 he married Elizabeth Winspear, the foster daughter of Joseph Tice and Selina Gellibrand (nee Evans). Elizabeth had been born in England in October 1849. She died, aged 44, on 1 May 1894 (reg. 1894/2652). Arthur died, aged 86, on 31 August 1928 (reg. 1928/4145). Also buried in the same grave is Arthur's mother, Charlotte (nee Field). Charlotte was born in France in 1791. She died in Tauranga in 1875 and was buried in Mission Cemetery (Otamataha Pā). Text and photograph by Debbie McCauley (1 October 2016).
