SAM WALLS

HOUSTON - Chesley Durell "Sam" Walls, 81, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at his home. He was born Jan. 17, 1930, in Pontotoc County to Thomas Jefferson Walls and Virgie Lee Holloway Walls. He was a retired welder for Glen Machine Works. He was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sitting under the shade tree while talking to his friends.

Services will be 5 p.m. today at Macedonia United Methodist Church in Houston with the Rev. Steve Lampkin and the Rev. Bobby Brock officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Houston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sara E. Criddle Walls of Houston; daughter, Ann Smith and her husband, Tommy of Houston; two sisters, Dorothy Holder and her husband, Hubert of Vardaman and Ruby Williams of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Lynn Nabors and her husband, Clay of Houston, Chris Smith of Houston, Shorty Yearby and his wife, Adele and Joe Yearby, both of Columbus; nine great-grandchildren, Mykkie Smith of Houston, Ashley Nabors (Ross) of Houston, Megan Nabors of Hammond, La., Robyn Yearby, A.J. Yearby, Mattison Yearby, Matthew Yearby, Ashley Yearby and Dylan Yearby, all of New Hope; one great-great-grandchild, Damion Haig of Houston; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Frankie Yearby; two sisters, Drucilla Shaffer and Beatrice Hill; four brothers, Pete Walls, Pres Walls, Wes Walls and James Walls.

Pallbearers will be Chris Smith, Joe Yearby, Shorty Yearby, Shane Booth, Eric Smith and Eugene Criddle.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mykkie Smith, Clay Nabors, Ross Haig and members of Buchanan Ridge Hunting Club.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the church.
