Provided by Kevin Oram:
The seventh child of Gerrit the Younger and Elizabeth was Chrisparus “Casparus” Knoetze (“Casparus Major”), born in the Langkloof valley, Western Cape and baptised 26 March 1783.
Casparus Major married Elsje Susanna Jacoba van der Merwe at Uitenhage on 4 January 1817. She was his 2nd wife (his first wife having died) and was born 6 June 1796 in the Western Cape and baptised at Graaff Reinet on 26 November 1797.
Elsje Susanna was the daughter of Willem and Anna Sophia van der Merwe, but further details of this couple are unknown to me.
At some stage, Casparus Major moved from the Langkloof valley to farm in the Albany District of the Eastern Cape Frontier. We know this because his son Chrisparus “Casparus” Wilhelmus Matthys Knoetze (“Casparus Minor”)’s baptism record at St George's Grahamstown records Casparus Major as being a farmer in the Albany District. He must have moved back to the Langkloof because Casparus Major’s Death Notice (December 1862) records that he died on 30 May 1862 on his farm at Stinkfontein in the Klein Winterberg Ward of the Langkloof valley.
