Biography

Colonel Augustine Washington, Jr. (1720 – May 1762) was the second son of Augustine Washington and Jane Butler, and George Washington's half-brother.

Augustine married Anne (or Ann) Aylett who was born in 1726 at "Nominy Plantation." She was the daughter and coheiress of William Aylett (d. 1744) and Ann Ashton (d. bef 1730).

According to the will of Augustine Washington Sr., the land now known as Mount Vernon first was willed to Lawrence Washington (brother of Augustine Jr.). However, the will instructed that in the case Lawrence should die without an heir the property would go to Augustine Jr. if he would be willing to give the Pope's Creek property to George Washington. Augustine decided instead to keep the Pope's Creek property and so George got the property now known as Mount Vernon.

He was born 21 NOV 1747 in Chestnut Hill, Westmoreland County, Virginia, and died 8 MAR 1814 in Westmoreland County, Virginia.
• v. Jane WASHINGTON was born APR 1756 in niece of Gen. George Washington-Westmoreland County, Virginia, and died OCT 1833 in va. She married John Spotswood THORNTON 1784, son of Francis III col THORNTON and Mary Frances GREGORY. He was born ABT 1739 in Spotsylvania, Virginia, and died 1822.
• vi. William Augustine WASHINGTON was born 25 NOV 1757 in Westmoreland County, Virginia, and died OCT 1810 in va-Bridges Creek Washington Family cemetery. He married Jane "Jenny" WASHINGTON, daughter of John Augustine WASHINGTON and Hannah BUSHROD. She was born 20 JUN 1759 in va, and died 10 AUG 1791 in Bridges Creek Washington Family cemetery. He married Mary LEE 5 JUL 1792, daughter of Richard Henry LEE and Anne AYLETT. She was born 28 JUL 1764 in Chantilly, Westmoreland, Virginia, and died 1795 in Haywood, Madison, Virginia-. He married Sarah Sally TAYLOE 11 MAY 1799, daughter of John TAYLOE and Rebecca PLATER. She was born 5 MAR 1765 in Lancaster County, Virginia., and died 3 SEP 1834.

Augustine Washington Jr. is the half-brother of George Washington, the first president of the United States. Augustine Jr. is the son of Augustine Washington Sr. and his first wife Jane Butler.
