Biography

Daniel McCoy Sr was born in 1763 in Scotland.

Daniel married Lydia Qua-La-Yu-Ga Halfbreed circa 1789 in Cherokee Nation East. Together they had the following children: Catherine Marie Miller Gann.

Daniel married Lucy Fields circa 1778 in Cherokee Nation East, Tennessee. Together they had the following children: Sallie McCoy; Eleanor Reese; Alexander Lowrey McCoy; Daniel McCoy; Susie Fields McCoy; Rory McCoy.

Not a known husband of Sarah "Sallie" Bathia Hicks

He died in 1835 in Cherokee Nation East, Georgia, United States.

Very little is known of Daniel McCoy, a white man and apparently a trader to the indians. He was probably born about 1760. He had children by at least two Cherokee women, Lydia Halfbreed (a daughter, Catherine) and Lucy Fields (Nellie, Susie, Sallie, Alexander, Daniel, and Rory). [1] A Cherokee Agency record from August, 1807 lists him as the recipient of 20 spinning wheels "for Cherokees," and a payment of $50 for the same. On Nov. 7, 1808 he was paid for six spinning wheels and a loom. [2] In 1814 the Moravians wrote, "on the 14th an old white man named McCoy was our guest at noon. He is Scottish by birth, has lived among the Creeks for a long time, also had a wife from that nation, and had six children by her. For thirty years he has been in the Cherokee Nation, where he also has children and the children of children by Cherokee mothers. [3] His date of death is unknown.
