David Robert Joseph Beckham is an English retired professional footballer. He played for Manchester United, Preston North End, Real Madrid, Milan, LA Galaxy, Paris Saint-Germain and the England national team, for which he held the appearance record for an outfield player until 2016. He is the first English player to win league titles in four countries: England, Spain, the United States and France. He retired in May 2013 after a 20-year career, during which he won 19 major trophies.
According to the Sun on Sunday, the former England captain, 46, flew to Doha this month to meet with dignitaries.
David Beckham has had one of the highest market values in the sport since breaking through as a Manchester United star. According to The Telegraph, the agreement he has entered into with the organizer of the World Cup in Qatar will give him approximately £150 million. The agreement has been criticized by, among others, Amnesty, which points out the same accusations of human rights violations in Qatar that have marked the boycott debate here at home. The agreement could also damage his brand, says Marcel Knobil, founder of Superbrands. - As good as this is for Qatar, it is bad for Beckham, he states. Conrad Wiacek of GlobalData also believes Beckham's brand may be damaged by his connection to Qatar.
