Biographical Account
David Kennedy, 1st Earl of Cassilis (before 1478 – 9 September 1513) was a Scottish peer, the son of John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy.
David, 3rd Lord Kennedy, who was created Earl of Cassillis in 1509, took his men from Maybole to fight at Flodden in 1513. He was killed, as was his sovereign, James IV, in that disastrous battle and his body was brought back for burial in the Old College in the Kirkport.

Married:
- before July 1489 to Agnes, daughter of William, Lord Borthwick, by whom he had three sons
- Margaret Boyd, daughter of Thomas Boyd, 1st Earl of Arran and Princess Mary Stewart of Scotland, on 9 August 1509, by dispensation. She is also known as Grizel and was the relict of Alexander Lord Forbes; they had no issue.

- 1487: invested as a Knight on 29 January 1487/88 by King James III
- 1509: succeeded to the title of 3rd Lord Kennedy between 24 July 1508 and 13 May 1509.
- 1509: created 1st Earl of Cassillis on 23 October 1509.
- 1513: On 9 September 1513, he fought and died at Flodden Field.
