Biography
John Phinney was born on 5 May 1665 in Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, the son of John and Mary (Rogers) Phinney.[1][2][3]
He married Sarah Lumbart, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Derby) Lumbart, on 30 May 1689 in Barnstable.[4] John was a cooper and farmer.[5]
John Phinney died on 27 November 1746 at Barnstable at age 81.[6][7] He was buried in the Phinney's Lane Cemetery in Centreville, Barnstable, where his gravestone still stands:[8][9]
Here lyes ye body of Deacon John Phinney who departed this life Novr ye 27th 1746 in ye 82d year of his age. His wife Sarah died 05 May 1753 in Barnstable and is buried with him.[10][11]
John Phiney of Barnstable wrote his will on 29 November 1735, in which he named his wife Sarah, sons Jabez, John, and Thomas, daughters Elizabeth, Hannah, Sarah, Patience and Martha. Wife Sarah and son Jabez to be executors. The will was witnessed by Ebenezer, George & Sarah Lewis, and proved on 15 January 1746[/7].[5]
