English Origins of Church Family of Hartford, CT (June 2022)
This block of text is being applied to early immigrant Richard Church and his immediate family to explain their English origins, unknown until now and historically a part of the Gustave Anjou fraud. See this 2022 G2G post and this 2015 G2G post for more background. Original text on each profile about murky/unknown origins is left intact for historical purposes given the importance of the Anjou fraud. Some individual annotations or edits for clarity will be made to each profile.
Parish records from Cottenham, Cambridgeshire (a village on the edge of Cambridge) were found that match this 6-person family unit exactly as to name and age. No contradictory records have been found i.e. local burials or marriages of any of these family members within a natural life span and the odds of this 6-person match being a coincidence would seem to be about zero.
Richard Church married Ann Williams (previously Ann Unknown on WikiTree) on 8 Jan 1625[1] (double year not stated in transcript) followed by baptisms of children Edward (17 Dec 1626)[2], Mary (27 Sep 1629)[3], John (26 Sep 1632)[4] and Samuel (30 Nov 1635)[5]. Richard and his family emigrated to Hartford by 2 Jan 1639/40, his parents William Church and Mary Lee/Laye and full-blood siblings having already passed away along with his stepmother Elizabeth (Hunte) Church. He left behind two half-sisters in their late teens, Eleanor and Susan, their fates have not been researched.
