About Donal na Pipi MacCarthy Reagh, 3rd Prince Of Carbery
John O’Hart, 1892, Irish Pedigrees, James Duffy & Co., Ltd, Dublin, Ireland, Vol. 1, p. 118-119:
"This Donal was sirnamed Riabhach or "swarthy," on account of his appearance; from him the family has been named "Reagh;"
In other words, this Donal was the first MacCarthy to be named Reagh.
Called Riabhach (Reagh), meaning swarthy; slew his uncle Cormac Donn to become third Prince of Carbery. Called Donal of the Donals, because so many of his ancestors had the same name
