William Strother1, the pioneer of the family in America, came to Virginia in 1650, and settled in Citterboone, or Cotterborne Parish, near the present Port Conway, King George Co. He was a man of great prominence in the community, and married Dorothy Savage. William Strother1 died 1702. Will probated, Nov. 4, 1702.
"From this ancient family the Strothers of Virginia claim descent through William Strother,1 who came from Northumberland County, England, to America, and settled on the Rappahannock River, in Virginia, prior to 1673. Iiis will is dated 1700, his death occurred about 1702. His wife was Dorothy Savage. To them were born six children."

Disputed Origins
From https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/strother/1629/
Although many family trees claim that the immigrant William Strother's wife was Dorothy Savage, there is NO proof of her maiden name. William and Dorothy Strother were probably married in England or Scotland before arriving in the Colony of Virginia probably between 1669 and 1673. However, there is a Savage connection when their son, William Strother, who died in 1726 in King George County, VA, married Margaret Thornton, the daughter of Francis Thornton and Alice Savage. Alice was the daughter of Anthony Savage, who resided in Virginia.I understand that William Strother's (II) will in 1726 listed his children as William, Francis, Anthony, Benjamin, Margaret, and George.

Dorothy's maiden name and origin are uncertain. According to the William Strother Society (about 10 years ago), we clearly do not have any evidence for her maiden name. According to the 1903 Register of Kentucky State Historical Society article, William's wife is known only as "Dorothy."
Possibly the earliest source of "Savage" as her maiden name may have been The Abridged Compendium of American Genealogy ... by Virkus, but even there it is followed by "(?)."
Interestingly, the summary of the "Strother Family Genealogical Papers," at the Atlanta History Center, reports that William married "Dorothy Savage," (no parents stated).

from Re: Edward I Unbroken Female Descent to Staffords of Eyam post by Brad Verity 2005
"The latter website (On the Bradshaws and Staffords of Eyam with a Notice of the Old Hall by Peter Furness, Esq. This article was published originally in The Reliquary, Vol. 2, 1861-2; pp219-226. This transcription by Paul Bradford © 2001) seems especially well-researched. It debunks the theory that Alice Stafford, purported wife of gateway ancestor Capt. Anthony Savage (d. 1695), of Virginia (and mother of his dau Dorothy Savage, wife of William Strother), was dau of Humphrey Stafford of Eyam and Lucy Eyre of Holm Hall."
"I was excited thinking for a moment that Virginia-born Dorothy Savage was a direct female-line descendant of Edward I, but it just ain't the case."
