About Dr. Abel Prescott

Dr. Abel Prescott

Abel Prescott was a physician in Concord, Massachusetts, and was the father of two American patriots who helped sounded the alarm on April 19, 1775.

He was the father of Samuel and Abel Prescott, II who both rode with Paul Revere and William Dawes on their midnight ride to warn the Massachusetts militia that the British were on the move. Samuel Prescott was the only one to actually make it all the way to Concord, Massachusetts. Abel rode south to warn the towns of Sudbury and Framingham.

The rapid warning of Revere, Dawes, Samuel and Abel Prescott alerted the Minutemen with enough time for them to engage the British Army at the Battles of Lexington and Concord.

Both sons (Abel and Samuel) would become medical doctors.
