Dr. Miguel Caetano Dias (1854-1936)
-Awarded, successively, Cavaleiro, Official and Comendador da Real Ordem Militar de S. Bento de Aviz. -Decorated by D. Amelia for exemplary work in exterminating bubonic plague in Panjim in 1908. -President of First Provincial Congress of Goa.
General Dr. Miguel Caetano Dias was designated as ‘General’ by the Portuguese government. He held several portfolios in Portugal and Mozambique and Goa, among them Director of Health Services and later as Director of Escola Medica and Military Hospital in Panjim. He was held in such high esteem that in his lifetime, a memorial was erected to him in the Escola Medica (the former Goa Medical College). The bust now stands in a garden in front of the Casa da Moeda.
