In the end, Bolesław I took control over all the territories of his father and expelled his stepmother and half-brothers from Poland to Germany. Mieszko's further fate is unknown, but in 1032 a certain Dytryk (son of either Mieszko or his brother Lambert) returned to Poland and took control over part of the country after the fall of Mieszko II Lambert. Dytryk's reign was short-lived: in 1033, he was deposed and expelled by Mieszko II, who reunited all Poland.

5. MIESZKO (after 979-). Thietmar names (in order) "Miesco, Swentepulk & ---" as the sons of Prince Mieszko and his wife Oda, recording that the brothers were expelled from Poland with their mother after their father's death by their half-brother Prince Bolesław[73]. "Dagome iudex et Ote senatrix et filii eorum Misica et Lambertus" donated "civitatem…Schinesghe" to the papacy by charter dated to [Aug 995/25 May 992][74]. m (after 25 May 992) ---. The name of Mieszko's wife is not known. Mieszko & his wife had one child:

a) DYTRYK (-after 7 Jul 1032). He is shown in Europäische Stammtafeln[75] as the son of Mieszko but the primary source on which this is based has not been identified.

Nakonec Bolesław I. převzal kontrolu nad všemi územími svého otce a vyhnal svou nevlastní matku a nevlastní bratry z Polska do Německa. Mieszka další osud neznámý, ale v roce 1032 (07.07.1032) se jistý Dytryk (syn buď Mieszko nebo jeho bratr Lambert) vrátil do Polska a po pádu Mieszka II Lamberta převzal kontrolu nad částí země. Dytrykovo panování bylo krátkodobé: v roce 1033 byl sesazen a vyhnán Mieskem II., který spojil celé Polsko.
