Edward Penick was born 1670 and died 1721 in Hanover Co., VA
Notes for Edward Penick:
First showed up when son Edward was baptized Aug 15, 1686.
Variants: Penick, Penix, Pinick, Pinix
Edward first appears in records on August 15, 1686 at the baptism of his son, Edward Jr., in St. Peter's Church, New Kent County, Virginia. He was living in St. Peter's Parish in 1694 when son William was baptized and in 1689 when his name appears on a list of landowners who were ordered to procession or walk around and re-mark the boundaries of each man's land. From records we gather that Edward was English and he was a communicant from the Church of England.
The following is taken from Layman W. Priest's book: The Penick Family, published by the McClure Printing Company, Inc.,
Verona, Virginia, 1982
The name Pinick first appeared in colonial records on 15 August 1686, when Edward, the son of Edward Pinick and Elizabeth his wife, was baptized in St. Peter's Parish, Kent County, VA. (C.G. Chamberlayne, ed., The Vestry Book and Register of St. Peters Parish, New Kent and James City, Counties, Virginia 1684-1786 [Richmond: The Virginia State Library, 1937]. pg. 381
The variant Pinix appeared on 4 May 1694, when the Vestry of St. Peter's Parish ordered all landowners, including Edward
Pinix, to procession or walk around and remark the boundaries of each man's land (ibid., pp. 19-21).
The variant Penix appeared on the Rent Roll of 1704, when Edward Penix was shown with 200 acres of land in the Parish
of St. Peter's and St. Paul's in New Kent County, Virginia. (Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, XXXI (1923), 215 and
225.
When St. Paul's Parish was formed from St. Peter's in 1704, Edward Penix and his land were included in the new parish. A
comparison of names near Edward's name on 4 May 1689 procession with names in Edward's precinct in later processionings in
St. Paul's Parish should identify some of Edward's closest neighbors:
