About Edward Weeden
There is no evidence to support a birth location or parents.
Children's birth dates listed below are approximate.
Edward Weeden (1613 - 1679), a carpenter of early Boston and Rumney Marsh [now Chelsea/Airport], was born in 1613 in England. He sailed to New England aboard the Susan and Ellen in 1635 when he was 22 years old. They departed London on 14 April and arrived three weeks later on 9 May 1635.
Edward Weeden settled in Lynn but moved to Boston by 1641. Edward married Elizabeth Cole (1621 - 1696), a member of First Church of Boston, in 1643/1644 at Boston. The daughter of Samuel Cole, who owned the first entertainment establishment in Boston, she was probably born in Mersea, Essex in 1621. She was known as Midwife Weeden and is mentioned in Samuel Sewell's diary as being fetched to assist in the delivery of one of his children in April 1677. Elizabeth was a well-respected midwife who appeared in the following three court cases.
- 1673 case 1254 – Peter Broy, 20, accused of the rape of Sarah Lambert
- 1676 case 1501 – Caleb Bastian, slave of Robert Cox, accused of rape
- 1679 case 1870 – Elizabeth Norse, accused of witchcraft
In 1672 he described himself as "of Rumney Marsh" and had six children at home. He sold six acres of meadow on the east point of Hog Island [now part of the mainland above the airport] in the bay.

- Hutchinson of Rumney Marsh during the battle of Dedham Plain on 31 December 1675. They marched to Warwick and were in various campaigns December 1675 - January 1676. Joe is mentioned in three court cases:
- 1681 case 2057 – suit on debt for cast-a-way vessel in harbor

- 24 April 1676 under Mosely
- 9 October 1675 captured at Dedham while under Mosely 7. Elizabeth Weeden (born 1656), married Sampson Cole in 1673 (possibly her cousin?)
Note
Clearly, there is a great deal of research to be done regarding the children of Edward and Elizabeth. Sarah Weeden (born 1638 Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts - died 1715), who married Jeremiah Belcher in 1667, could not have been the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Weeden, as they did not marry until five or six years after her birth. [Sarah's birth date may not have been 1638.]

According to the passenger list, on 13 Apr 1635, "Edward Weeden," aged 22, was enrolled at London as a passenger for New England on the Susan & Ellen.Settled at Boston, where he was a carpenter. He was born about 1613. He married by about 1641 Elizabeth Cole, daughter of Samuel Cole {1630, Boston}. They had 8 known children. On 13 Jun 1677 "Elizabeth Weeden, midwife," deposed that she was aged "about 56 years." "Elizabeth Weeden the midwife died at Boston on 11 Jun 1691. Edward Weeden sailed for New England with John Mansfield {1635, Boston}, brother-in-law of Robert Keayne {1635, Boston}, & with Clement Cole {1635, Boston}, one of Robert Keayne's servants. Edward Weeden may, then have come to New England as a servant of Robert Keayne. Even after his marriage, Edward apparently continued to work for Keayne, & perhaps resided on Keayne's farm at Rumney Marsh, as there is no evidence of Edward's owning land himself until a 1666 bequest from his father-in-law, who had by then married Keayne's widow.
The children of Edward and Elizabeth were born in Boston.[1]
