Edward died sometime after May 20, 1638, when he was listed as an inhabitant of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.[2] He was certainly deceased by April 13, 1660, when Daniel sold land that had belonged "to my father, Edward Wilcox".[1] Edward Wilcox, immigrant ancestor, was one of the free inhabitants of the island Aquidneck, now Rhode Island, in 1638, and joined in founding the compact of government in May 28 of that year. About the same time he had a trading house in Narragansett in company with Roger Williams. Sometime after they took into their business Richard Smith Sr., formerly from Gloucestershire, England, later of Taunton, Massachusetts. Edward Wilcox died probably at Narragansett before 1648, and in 1653, the above-mentioned Smith appears to have acted as guardian for eight children, supposed to have been those of Wilcox. Children: Stephen, mentioned below; Daniel, married November 28, 1661 Elizabeth, daughter of John and Sarah (Warren) Cook. Doubtless others.
