About Elizabeth "Betsy" Ball (Yeary)

Elizabeth (Yeary) & Moses Ball Sr. (son of George Ball and Keziah Ann Hanson) were married February 17, 1789. Her sister Mary "Polly" married Moses' brother John. Their kids were double cousins. Elizabeth and Moses had twelve children: James Samuel; Nancy; Elizabeth "Betsy"; Moses Jr.; Mary "Sally"; William; Keziah; Matilda; Thomas; Spencer; Louisiana "Lucy Ann"; and George Washington Ball.

'The Story of Elizabeth YEARY BALL's Capture by the Indians. One night Jemina Yeary (born 1776) went to milk the cow. She saw an Indian hiding behind a log. She pretended she didn't see him, milked her cow, and went back to the house where she told her sister, Elizabeth, and an old Negro slave. (Elizabeth was Moses BALL's wife). They could hear the Indians whistling to one another and giving signals. They broke down the door, killed the old slave, scalped him and put the scalp in a belt. They found Elizabeth and captured her. She recognized the scalp they carried as that of the old Negro. Jemina had hidden in the chimney and the Indians did not find her. The Indians traveled with Elizabeth for three or four days. She broke off twigs from the trees and bushes as she went along the road. Another of the slaves had tried to follow her but was found and killed. They would travel by day and at night they would tie her. One night she got loose and ran away. They followed her, and once got so close, that she hid in a hollow log. They looked everywhere, even stood on the log, but failed to look inside. She stayed in that log for a day and a night, then picked up her trail of broken twigs until she came to a cross-roads and she couldn't tell which road to take. A little bird flew down, twittered and flew away. She went in the direction that the bird had flown and soon met her husband, Moses Ball, and her brothers who were coming to hunt for her. She was a sister of Henry who fought in the Revolutionary War.

The Ball Cem. is also called, Brabford - Daniel Family Cem. I searched the whole cemetery, which is not very large. There is no marker for Elizabeth Yeary Ball, I wish there were, Yeary is also one of my lines." --May 15, 2012. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ F.A.G. member Phil Cheek states via email 7-7-12: "Hello, I believe you have this memorial in the wrong Ball Cemetery. The one you have her in is the Ball Cemetery near Balls Chapel Church south-east of Rose Hill. Info in your Memorial says she is buried in the Ball-Kincaid Cemetery which is in the Ewing area, the same Cemetery where Nannie Lee Kincaid Stickley and her ancestors are buried. It is listed on FAG - as Ball Cemetery-Ewing-Lee County. Link is: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GScid=2325827&GRid...

NOTE: The photo request is still active and has not been removed. I've changed the cemetery info. to see if this will help find her. ;D ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7-10-12--a Find A Grave volunteer Phil Cheek has reported a problem with your photo request for Elizabeth Ball.

The general problem they reported is: I searched the entire cemetery and could not find the grave

They also reported, specifically: Vol. I of Cemeteries of Lee Co. published by the Lee Co. Hist. Society notes that this grave is unmarked - info provided by Bashie Kincaid. I check the cemetery and there are a few graves marked with fieldstone, as well as 4 or 5 sarcophagus that have no legible inscriptions. Without further info, this grave cannot be identified.

NOTE: I put Elizabeth Ball back in the cemetery the source states due to above problem.
