Notes

Ann van Kempen (Our Doolittle Line Revisited) researched all parishes in northern Worcestershire and southern Staffordshire and the city of Birmingham, Warwickshire looking for the birth of an appropriately-aged Elizabeth Baker, to no avail. Old Swinford's church registers begin long after her christening. While she found an Elizabeth Baker, dau of Philip Baker alias Clarke and pewterer, of the right age in Worcester City (15 miles south of Kidderminster), she believes Elizabeth is more likely to have been christened in Old Swinford before the church records were kept.

van Kempen argues powerfully against a wide-spread theory that Elizabeth being the daughter of Nicholas Baker and Mary Hodgett of Bewdley, Worcestershire. Similarly, she has found no evidence of the existence of a Nicholas Baker, son of John Baker and Margery Madistard, living in New Haven, CT or anywhere in CT-- another wide-spread theory without substance.

An Elizabeth Doolittle died and was buried 20 Jan. 1635/6 at Old Swinford. Traditionally, van Kempen points out, a married woman who was buried would be listed as "wife of" or "widow". Therefore the Elizabeth that died and was buried on this date-- who has no such phrasing on her death record-- may not be THIS Elizabeth Baker Doolittle.
