Col. John1 Carter married Jane Glyn, daughter of Morgan Glyn; 1st wife. He married Eleanor Eltonhead, daughter of Richard Eltonhead and Ann Sutton; 2nd wife. He married Anne Carter, daughter of Cleave Carter; 3rd wife. He married Sarah Ludlow, daughter of Gabriel Ludlow Esq. and Phyllis; 4th wife. He married Elizabeth Sherley in 1668; 5th wife. He died on 10 Jun 1669 at 'Corotoman', Lancaster Co., VA. He was buried at Christ Church, Lancaster Co., VA. He resided at 'Corotoman', Lancaster Co., VA. He immigrated in 1635 to Lancaster Co., VA. He was a member of the House of Burgesses 1642-1649 & 1653-1658 at Virginia. He was a member of Council in 1658 at Virginia.

To all people Whereas Mr. JOHN HASELWOOD & Docr. WALTER WHTITAKER of the County of Middlesex in Virginia did the Seaventeenth day of December 1674 in Consideracon of a marriage then shortly intended to be solemnized between the said JOHN HASELWOOD & MRS, ELIZABETH CARTER then Widdow being bounded in a certaine Bond bearing date aforesaid, to Mr. WALTER WHARTON then in Virginia as Trustee for & on the behalfe of said ELIZABETH CARTER in some of four hundred pounds of good & law- full money of England upon condicon that if said Marriage should take effect that two hundred pounds Sterl. should allways be at the command & disposall of said ELIZABETH by Will or otherwise, as well after the consumacon of said intended marriage as freely as it was before Coverture, and that if the said JOHN HASELWOOD should from time to time at att all tymes thereafter fulfill the said agreement according as it was specified & without any delay pay the said two hundred pounds according to the Order then that obligacon to be void nor if said intended marriage by the blessing of God did take effect and now Know Yee that ELIZABETH CARTER HASELWOOD late CARTER Wife of the said JOHN HASELWOOD in full consideration of the Bond so made for & on behalfe of me ye said ELIZABETH & according to the condicons thereof have received according to my will and pleasure the said two hundred pounds Sterl. and doe hereby declare that said JOHN HASELWOOD hash fulfilled the said Bond according as in the condicon specified & hereby acknowledged the said Bond to be of no force or vertue In full assurance hereof I the said ELIZABETH HASELWOOD have sett my hand & Seale this 26th day of November 1674 in presence of RICHD.
