About Elizabeth Huestis

Biography

Retrieved from https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Buxton-15 on 13 November 2024 and then edited

Elizabeth Buxton is assumed to be the daughter of Clement Buxton (abt.1615-1657) and possibly his wife Unica (Unknown) Knapp (abt.1615-bef.1670) but this is unproven.

In his 1998 article on Robert Huestis of Westchester County, Remington affirmed the assumption she was his child, as explained in a footnote.

"See 'Robert W. Spiers and W. John Buxton, "The Descendants of Clement Buxton of Stamford, CT," Connecticut Ancestry 32 (Feb 1990): 12-13. There is no document that states Elizabeth was the daughter of Clement Buxton, but the relationship is assumed because there is no other Buxton family in Stamford at the time. Elizabeth fits chronologically, and Clement Buxton and Robert Hustis were neighbors. See Stamford Town Records 1:34-35 (transcription of original 1:29).[1]

Other possibilities were that Elizabeth was a much younger sibling of Clement Buxton or some other relation. Was Robert perhaps a second husband and Buxton her brother-in-law? Would a marriage record have indicated she was a widow? His origins in England are not yet known conclusively. Current parents are marked "uncertain".

They were married on 9 January 1655 in Stamford, New Haven Colony.

"Children:

  1. Moses; died 1694 in Salem, NJ, probably unm.
  2. Jonathan; he was a carpenter of Westchester Co. and married 9th day April 1709 Mary, daughter of Timothy Brandreth of New Jersey at Flushing Meeting. They died before 1768.
  3. Samuel; m. Elizabeth, daughter of John Pell. He was dec'd by about 1742.
  4. Elizabeth; m. Horseman, son of Thomas Mollineaux 30th day 9th month 1692.
  5. Sarah; m. John Betts.
  6. Mary; m. Edward Collier.
  7. Abigail; m. Josiah Hunt Jr. with license of 24 December 1695
  8. Robert; d. 1718 sp.
  9. John; d. 1737.
  10. David, b. ca. 1683-4; m. Mary Haight 1711."[5]
