About Elizabeth Ann O'Pry
Wife of Hugh O'Pry I, was born circa 1745, and she died in Twiggs County, Ga. after 1821. Her father was Greshom Benbow. Their children were Richard, John, Amos, George, Robert I, Agnes, and Hugh II. In 1799, Hugh O'Pry I made a will out to his wife, Elizabeth Ann. He left all of his goods and chattels to her. George Raiborn, her son-in-law, was her administrator. During the long court of Equity Court Case that lasted 17 years, George Raiborn died. Her father, Greshom Benbow, then became the trustee of Elizabeth Ann O'Pry. As was the custom in those days, women did not look after business affairs. After the death of Elizabeth's father, she lost all of her holdings. Hugh's mother was later listed in the 1821 land lottery in Georgia. At the time she was living in Twiggs County, Georgia, an area called Halls District. She drew land in Henry County, Ga., Lot 101, Sec. 5, Her grandson, Hugh III was also listed in this lottery. He drew his land in Dooley County, Lot 193,Sec.6, he was listed living in Halls District in Twiggs County, Georgia. He was listed as an orphan, Elizabeth was listed as a widow. George Raiborn's daughter married Hugh O'Pry II.
