She married Isaac Garrett Smedley, a homeopathic physician, surgeon, gynecologist on 19 Aug 1886. They were the parents of three children: Florence Elizabeth (Clifford H Vernon), Eleanor (who died in infancy), and Caroline Hallowell (Guy B Colburn).
Elizabeth was widowed on 1 Dec 1899; her husband fell at the Bryn Mawr train station, fracturing his skull, and died a few minutes later.
She married Clarence Burtch Hoadley, a man 15 years her junior, on 18 Nov 1901. They had no children of their own.
