Biography

Elkanah MITCHELMORE was born on March 2, 1794 in Bickerton, Devonshire, England (United Kingdom). His parents were William MITCHELMORE and Sarah HUMBERSTONE .

Elkanah married Mary Anne NICOL on 15 April 1819 in Charleton, Devonshire, England (United Kingdom). Together they had the following children:

• 1820 Peter ;
• 1822 William Solomon ;
• 1825 Mary Ann ;
• 1826 John ;
• 1831 Tabitha ;
• 1833 Sarah Elizabeth ; born enroute

In 1833 Elkanah and family emigrated to Australia where they had the following children

• 1836 Samuel ; married Jane CROSSEN
• 1836 Samuel Thomas ; married Jesse FRASER
• 1838 Sophia;
• 1841 Jabez .

NOTE: some of the children born in Tasmania, Australia were registered as MOORE rather than MITCHELMORE

In Australia Elkanah was a carpenter and built small ships for the coastal trade

In 1849 Elkanah plus 3 sons (Peter + William + John) and his son in law Thomas LANG sailed to California on "Union", they returned in 1850 (except for one son)

He died on May 10, 1863 in Williamstown, Victoria, Australia and was buried in Williamstown Cemetery.

• Samuel Thomas MOORE ; married Jesse FRASER

These 2 men are unlikely to be the same person as they were married and having children with different women at the same time - one in Tasmania and the other in Victoria
