Services: 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Ft. Sumner.
Ellis Elmer Gammill, 77 of Ft. Sumner, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
He was born on June 23, 1927, in Turkey, Texas, to Silas Luther and Icie Carrie Ellen Pickle Gammill.
He came to New Mexico at age of 12. He grew up in Ft Sumner and farmed with his family in Valley. He worked at the family dairy. He moved to Farmington where he was a police officer and volunteer fireman. He served as a fireman and fire chief for many years with the Valley fire department.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers.
Survivors include a brother, Glen "Sonny" Gammill of Amarillo; five sisters, Zona Hawthorne of Amarillo, Freda Inglis of Napa, Calif., Hazel Smith of Ft. Sumner, Ella Sandefer of Amarillo, and Louise Harrison of Portales.
The Rev. Coy Brewer will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Ft. Sumner Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 8 a.m. until services Monday at First Baptist Church in Ft. Sumner.
Pallbearers are the members of the Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
Honorary pallbearers are other members of the Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.
