Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Harvey-12756

The origins of Emanuel Harvey (aft.1742-bef.1817) are unknown before 8 March 1790; however there is a theory that Emanuel Harvey began in Hyde County North Carolina.

An Emanuel Harvey was issued 200 acres of land on 26 Oct 1767 in Craven County,NC located "On the Gum and Dover Swamps" when Emanuel was 25 years old. This was recorded in Land Patent Book 23 page 129 as Craven County Grant # 267. https://nclandgrants.com/grant/?mars=12.14.50.3252&qid=996794&rn=1

It would a decade later that our Emanuel is granted land in Bryan Cty Georgia.

Emanuel Harvey and Richard Harvey both received warrants, in 1790 and 1792 respectively, for 300 acres on Black Creek. They are presumably related. They appear together in Bryan County records for many years, though some of these records may actually be for two of Richard's sons, also named Emanuel and Richard.

He lived in Bryan County, Georgia and had at least 1 son and 4 daughters that were living at the time he wrote his will. The children named in his Will were Nancy Martin, William Harvey, Elizabeth Sheffield, Rebecca Davis, and Susannah McElvene. James Martin and John Sheffield were also named in the Will.[2]. The Will has not been found on Ancestry, Family Search or other sources and would possibly be on record in the Bryan County, Georgia courthouse.

He married a woman named Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) based on his heirs in his Will and the heirs listed in the Will of Elizabeth Harvey that died in Florida in 1835. Elizabeth’s estate was probated along with her daughter’s in 1852 (her daughter was Rebecca (Harvey Davis) DeVaughn.[3]) estate was probated in Florida in 1852. Elizabeth’s heirs listed in that probate were:

  • Rebecca Davis DeVaughn
  • William Harvey living in the state of Georgia,
  • Susan McElveen Burnside Bragg m. William McElveen 1807.
  • Martha who intermarried with John Sheffield, 1850 Census says they're 5 years apart. She's 73.
  • Polly who intermarried with James Martin.[4]

Elizabeth’s heirs and her daughter Rebecca closely match the names in Emanuel’s Will.

Vital Statistics

Birth

Emanuel's daughter Nancy was born about 1765. Using an average age of 25 years old for the father at the birth of a first child, Emanual's birth is estimated, (about 1765 - 25 years) = about 1740. However, as this estimate is based on a first child, Emanuel was probably born before 1740. If an average age of 34 years old for the father at the birth of a middle child is used instead, Emanuel was probably born about 1742. Spratlin-29 Spratlin-29 16:10, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

The children of these two families were previously disputed:

  • Emanuel Harvey (aft.1742-bef.1817) & Elizabeth (Unknown) Harvey (abt.1745-1835) (this profile)
  • Richard Harvey Sr (bef.1762-bef.1823) & Elizabeth (Unknown) Harvey (abt.1765-aft.1840) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Harvey-113
