About Emerentia Schephausen / Malan
Since she was married to two men, we use the general guideline in Geni that the maiden name of the lady in question is used. This helps to avoid confusion. We also use the surname spelling Steyn which at the time was the equivalent of Steijn and sometimes even of Stein. In Geni we generally spell surnames in normal way, Steyn and not STEYN.
Buried in the Moederkerk in Stellenbosch with both her husbands: Daniel Malan (1703 - 1770), boer van Morgenster, was ’n seun van die stamvader Jacques Malan (no. 8). Daniel is getroud (i) 1724 met Marie Verdeau, wed. Pierre Jourdan van die plaas Cabrière, en (ii) 1750 met Emmerentia Steyn, wed. Schephausen (vgl. no. 39), dogter van Jacobus Steyn. And Arnoldus Schephausen, gebore 1697 in die Ruhrgebied, het in 1730 as soldaat na die Kaap gekom; getroud 1736 met Emmerentia Steyn (vgl. no. 86), sedert 1741 woonagtig op Stellenbosch as sekretaris van Landdros en Heemrade; oorlede 1748.
