About Emilio Quisumbing
Emilio Quisumbing was a Filipino civil engineer. He was one of the 1903 pensionados sent by the US colonial government to the US for graduate / post-graduate degrees. He would earn a degree in civil engineering from Cornell University. He started work in 1908 at the US colonial government's Department of Engineering and Public Works (in Manila) as a 'chief computer' +; would be surveyor by 1912 in the same department; and would be listed as assistant engineer by 1924 with the Department of Water Supply and Sewers. By 1911, he was a professor under the UST's College of Science and Engineering.
+ yes, the job title did exist at that time. During that period, human computers managed mathematical tables such as trigonometric and logarithmic tables. These tables were relied on by navigators and engineers.
