Enid L. Hanks, Galesburg Chapel 78, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 5:35 pm Friday October 16, 2009 at the Woodridge Assisted Living Center in Galesburg. Enid was born July 13, 1931 in Galesburg, the eldest daughter of noted architect Donald Gullickson and his wife Leone Robinson Gullickson. She married Nelson O. Hanks on August 5, 1955 in a ceremony at her parent's home in Galesburg. Enid is survived by her sister, Donna Gullickson of Denver, Colorado; her son, Neil Wiesner-Hanks (Merry) of Mequon, WI; and her daughter, Lynn Smith (Kim) of Franklin, Tennessee. She has six grandchildren; Kai and Tyr Wiesner-Hanks; Calen, Curran, Aaron and Brandon Smith. She was raised and lived in Galesburg graduating from Galesburg High School in 1949. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in History from Knox College in 1953, where she also was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. For more than 20 years, Enid worked as the reference librarian at the Galesburg Public Library, helping generations of area residents with their schoolwork, research projects and career planning. She was an active member of the Galesburg Landmark Committee, a variety of Galesburg social and service organizations and a lifelong member of Galesburg's First United Methodist Church. She spent her last years enjoying time in her cabin at Lake Bracken, canoeing and swimming with her grandchildren, playing bridge and exchanging letters with her many wonderful friends, and taking her beloved dog Maggie on early morning walks. Visitation will be 12:30 pm Friday October 23, 2009 with Services at 1:30 pm at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be a private family event.
