About Fernando Quidlat Talaña
Fernando Quidlat Talaña was born in Carigara Leyte in 1870. In 1896 he decided to join the Katipuneros during the Filipino rebellion against Spain. Fernando Talana in 1898 became a scout for the United States Army for the 43rd regiment. During his service Fernando was seriously crippled as a result of his service with the United States Army. November 4 1905 became a honorary member of the 43rd regiment in St. Louis, Missouri United States as Sergeant Fernando Q. Talaña. Fernando was well loved by the troops giving him the nickname Ponady.
Fernando Q Talana, the first Filipino to be elected as and be entitled member of the 43rd regiment association, was recognized for his valuable credits as follows: services during the Insurrection and made an honorary member of the regiment as he served them faithfully as a Scout and endangered his life many times until the end of the insurrection.
