FOLKE "den digre", son of ---. Brenner suggests[1] that he was the same person as FOULQUES Vicomte de Montrevrault, son of RAOUL [de Beaumont] & his wife Agathe de Vendôme. He is named "Fulko grossus, son of Ingewaldus, son of Fulko Fölbythe the pagan" in a 14th century genealogy compiled at Varnem Abbey[2]. Jarl in Sweden. married 'INGEGERD of Denmark, daughter of KNUD II "den Hellige" King of Denmark & his wife Adèle de Flandre. Twin with her sister Cæcilie, they were left in Denmark when their mother fled to Flanders after their father's murder according to Saxo Grammaticus who also names her husband[3].

Folke & his wife INGEGERD had three children

  • 1. ARNOLD [Arnulf] (-murdered [Gradehede 23 Oct] 1157). Galbert of Bruges records that "Arnoldus nepos Karoli comitis" claimed the county of Flanders in early 1128[4]. "Arnoldum nepotem Caroli defuncti ex sorore eius primogenita" is named in the Cartulaire de Saint-Bertin, which specifies that he unsuccessfully claimed to succeed to the county of Flanders in 1127/28[5]. If the mother of Arnold was "soror primogenita" of Charles Count of Flanders, she would have been his sister Caecilie. Saxo Grammaticus names Caecilie's sons Knud and Karl, and Ingegerd's sons Knud and Bengt, without mentioning Arnold at all[6]. It is not impossible that Arnold was an impostor, unrelated to Count Charles, who appeared after the count's murder, his Danish credentials presumably being difficult to disprove in Flanders at the time. At Ulfsborg near Ribe.] married as her first husband, INGERD Pedersdatter, daughter of PEDER Thorstensen from Pedersborg & his wife Cecilie Skjalmsdatter [Hvide]. She married secondly Vagn [Vogn].
  • 2. KNUT Folkason, Saxo Grammaticus names Ingegerd's sons Knud and Bengt[7]. Jarl in Sweden.
  • 3. BENGT Folkason Snivel (-bur [Varnhem Abbey]). Saxo Grammaticus names Ingegerd's sons Knud and Bengt. Jarl in Sweden.

A Short History of Sweden, Page 29 n 48

TRADITION tells that, in the early heathen days, there dwelt in the fertile province of Ostergotland a well-to-do yeoman farmer named Folke Filbyter. His sons inherited his wealth and, possessing also initiative and ambition, soon opened up their way to influence and power. As early as the reign of Knut Eriksson, we find one of them established in the highest office of the realm below the king, the office of jarl, and towards the end of the decade 1240-50, this was bestowed on another member of the house, Birger, known to history under the name of Birger Jarl. He had first come to the fore as councillor to Erik Eriksson, 1222-50, the last representative of the Erik dynasty, after whose (death the jarl ensured his own position and that of his family by effecting the election of his son Valdemar as king. Valdemar was still a minor, so that Birger remained the actual ruler of the country until his death.

Bengt snivil

Bengt Folkesson, känd som Bengt Snivil eller Bengt Snivel,
var en svensk högreståndsperson tillhörande
Folkungaätten som ska ha levat på 1100-talet.

Enligt den danska historikern Saxo
var han son till Folke den tjocke
och
prinsessan Ingegärd Knutsdotter av Danmark.

Den svenska s.k. "Genealogia folkungorum",
