Francoise was born in Port Royal, Acadie, around 1652.≤ref>White, Stephen A. Dictionnaire Généalogique des Familles Acadiennes” 2 vols., Moncton, New Brunswick: Centre d'Études Acadiennes, 1999. p. 289≤/ref> She was the third daughter born to Vincent Brun and Renee Breau, and the first of their children to be born in the New World. In 1671, at the age of 19, Francoise was married and had one child. She and her husband Bernard Bourg, a farmer, lived in Port Royal. They owned no cultivated land, but they had a fewcattle and some sheep.≤ref name="1671 Census" />
Francoise and Bernard prospered in Port Royal. In 1698, after 28 yearsof marriage, they had 11 children, 35 arpents of land, 45 fruit trees, and plenty of livestock.≤ref name="1698 Census" />
Francoise lived to the age of 75, outliving her husband, as well as two or three of her children.
