Rear Admiral Francis Tiffany Bowles, world famous as a shipbuilder and former chief of the bureau and construction and repair of the United States navy, who was born in Springfield in 1858 and was a grandson of Samuel Bowles, founder of The Republican, died at 6:58 yesterday morning at his summer home on Commerce road, Barnstable, of a heart attack.
