Disputed origins
Early Settlers of Rowley, Massachusetts, listed this man as the son of Thomas who came from Wood Ditton.[1]
Anderson makes it clear, this was not George, the son of Thomas Kilborne[2]
Estimated Birth is based on the fact he was at least 21 when he became a freeman in 1640
New England
George Kilborne was a man servant listed as a member of John Eliot's Church at Roxbury. (no date indicating when he joined but prior to 1640).[3][4]
1638 -- George Kilbourne lived at Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts Bay Colony (now Boston).[1] Several persons from Roxbury left there to go to the new settlement of Rowley.[4]
May 13, 1640 -- George Kilborne became a freeman at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1][5][4]
1643 -- George Kilbourne had an acre and a half house lot at Bradford Street, Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1]
His wife was Elizabeth.[1] They lived in Rowley. Why would they marry in Connecticut as mentioned? The identification of Elizabeth as Barker is uncertain, but James Barker of Rowley twice mentions his brother George Kilborne.[1]
1678 -- George Kilbourne was mentioned in James Barker's will as "brother."[1]
October 14, 1685 -- George Kilbourne died at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, as shown by the inventory of his estate. (Essex Probate)[1][4]
February 13, 1697/8 -- widow Elizabeth Unknown Kilbourne died at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Province.[1][4]

PROBLEM
~• not listed as one of the Kilbourne Family that travelled together to Mass. Colony
SO THE QUESTION IS: Should we disconnect George of Rowley form his alleged father Thomas of Wethersfield, the one that was killed by Native Americans?
For Thomas and his family, who travelled together to Mass. Bay Colony, see Passengers on the Increase (geni project)

He was of Roxbury, 1638, and son of Thomas,1 who came from Wood Ditton, County Cambridge, to Boston in the 'Increase,' 1635, and settled in Wethersfield, baptized at Wood Ditton, 12 Feb., 1612 (Savage) [Jacobus says, '… probate records of members of the Wethersfield family afford conclusive proof that the only surviving children of Thomas were the one son and four daughters who accompanied him to this country. Walter Goodwin Davis leaves George Kilbourn unattached, appearing first as a young apprentice at Roxbury, and later a 'farmer of small pretensions' at Rowley.' Hale, House, 653]. His wife was Elizabeth. He was mentioned in the will of James Barker, as 'brother,' 1678. He died 14 Oct., 1685, as shown by the inventory of his estate (Essex Probate).

(Baltimore, Maryland, United States: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1996) 2:385. "'George Kilborne, a man servant,' appears on the list of members of Rev. John Eliot's Church at Roxbury, with no indication of the date of his adherence thereto. It was possibly about the year 1636, and he was doubtless a young apprentice attached to one of the Roxbury settlers. In 1640 he was living in Rowley, to which new settlement several of his fellow parishioners had moved, and where he was made a freeman on May 13 of that year. Kilborne seems to have been a farmer of small pretensions, and his name seldom appears on the records of Essex County. He served on the Grand Jury in 1662, 1676 and 1682, on the Jury of Trials in 1671 and 1675, and on a jury of inquest in 1670. In 1677 he was among the citizens of Rowley who protested against raising Rev. Mr. Shepherd's salary. James Barker of Rowley, in his will made in 1678, twice mentions his 'brother George Kilborne.' His wife Elizabeth appeared as a witness against the wife of John How in 1663 for the quaint offense of 'wearing a silk scarf and a silver bodkin when she was a widow.' He died October 14, 1685, in Rowley, and his estate was presented for administration on November 24, His widow, 'Sistr ye widow Kilborn," died February 14, 1697/8, according to the church record, the town record giving the date as February 13."
