notes
George was probably the grandson of Adam Scott of Bradfield who died in Mar. 1475/6 leaving his estate to George Scott and Benedict Freg. Robert Scott of Bradfielde died in Mar. 1558/9 and was probably a brother to George. Robert mentioned a brother Thomas, his wife Idolye and four children George, James, Joan, Agnes and George Hunt his brother-in-law.(1)
On 2 Oct, 1547 George Scott of Bradfield Saint George, county Suffolk made his will. He asked to be buried in the churchyard of Bradfield. He gave to the high altar 5s. To Margaret, his wife £40 and ten milk neat cattle and his two "copies" [copyhold land] for her life and all household stuff. And after her decease Edmund his son to have the best copy and George my son the next. He gave to each of them ten marks of good and lawful money of England and two milk neat cattle. To Isabell Scott his daughter 20 marks and two milk cows. To Nicholas Scott, his son, his house in Hegsted after the decease of his (George's) mother, and twenty combes of barley, five combes of wheat and five combes of rye. To his mother one combe of mystlyn and one combe of barley. To each of his son Nicholas's children five combes of barley and a milk cow payable at age 21 or at their marriage. Each godchild received two bushels of barley and every servant taking wages one combe of barley and to every one not taking wages two bushels. He gave to William Wyatt his blue coat, to Nicholas Scott his best marble coat, to Thomas Swanton his sleaved russett coat and his [ ___ ] coat and one combe of rye. At day of his burial he gave £4 for charity, at thirty days another £4. He made Margaret his wife and Nicholas his son to be executors. His master Sir Thomas Jermyn to be supervisor. Witnesses Richard ___, priest, James Chapman and Robert Scott. Proved 10 February 1547/8.(1)

- The best I can do is point to a page of DESCENDANTS of Edmund Scott and Hannah Bird. I'm cc:ing some other Edmund Scott descendants who might be able to help us, including the author of this wonderful web page which lists eight generations of descent, Lynn DeRider Olivier.
- This is, as far as I can tell, "UNSOURCED" data from the web, but here is the "theory" on the lineage of Edmund Scott.

- julie@internet.infobases.com ALSO has a Edmund Scott ancestry there

- (jd and julie have MUCH larger GEDCOM files. I HOPE that means they have better sources. They are big enough I'll have to read them in tonight though).
- Interestingly, both of these make the mistake of having people "born" in Hartford 20 years before it existed. Go figure!

Notes for Gregory (George) Scott
“I also have the Will of Gregory (George) Scott dated 2 October 1547 in Bradfield St. George. He bequeathed to his son Edmund ‘ten marks of good and lawful money of England nd two milk veal’.”
“George Scott of Bradfield Saint George was probably born about 1495, presumably in Bradfield. He was perhaps a grandson of adam Scott of Bradfield who died testate in March 1474/5, leaving his estate to George Scott and Benedict Freg__, probably a son and married daughter. Robert Scott of Bradfield who died testate in March 1558/9 was probably a brother to George. Robert in his will mentioned a brother Thomas Scott, wife Idolye, 4 children: George, James, Joan, Agnes, and George Hunt, his brother-in-law. George Scott died in late 1547 leaving a wife named Margaret, three sons and an unmarried daughter. An abstract of his will follows. ‘2 October 1547 - the will of George Scott of bradfield Saint George, county Suffolk . . . to be buried in the churchyard of Bradfield . . . to the high altar 5s . .. to Margaret my wife £40 and ten milk neat and my two copies [land held of the lord] for her life and all household stuff. Note: the Wikitree profile shows a death date of August 30, 1562:
George Scott (b abt 1495; d btw Oct 1547-Feb 1548), ancestor of Thomas Scott of Ipswich and his sister Ursula Scott who married Richard Kimball, is the furthest-back confirmed ancestor, according to John B. Threlfall's 1990 work in which he disproves 1896 claims by Harold Bowen that George was descended of the renowned Scott family of Braebourne and Scotshall, Kent. Threlfall identifies a wife Margaret (______) for George Scott.
Until further confirmation of George's own ancestry can be found, he's being detached from all older Scotts, as well as from wife Maude Pigot. There is no evidence that he was the son of William Scott of Scotts Hall, Brabourne, Kent.
George was born about 1495 in Bradfield, Suffolk England. He and Margaret had six children including Edmund, the second child.
He was buried 30 Aug 1562 in Bradfield, Suffolk England.
