Gina Lollobrigida

Gina Lollobrigida was an Italian actor, photojournalist, and politician. She was one of the highest-profile European female actors of the 1950s and early 1960s, a period in which she was an international sex symbol. At the time of her death, Lollobrigida was among the last living high-profile international actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema.

As her film career slowed, Lollobrigida established a second career as a photojournalist. In the 1970s she achieved a scoop by gaining access to Fidel Castro for an exclusive interview.

Lollobrigida continued on as an active supporter of Italian and Italian-American causes, particularly the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF). In 2008, she received the NIAF Lifetime Achievement Award at the Foundation's Anniversary Gala. In 2013 she sold her jewelry collection and donated the nearly US$5 million from the sale to benefit stem-cell therapy research. She won the Henrietta Award at 18th Golden Globe Awards. Gina Lollobrigida (/ˈd͡ʒiːna ˌlɔlloˈbriːd͡ʒida/), de son vrai nom Luigia Lollobrigida, est une actrice et photographe italienne, née le 4 juillet 1927 à Subiaco3 et morte le 16 janvier 2023 à Rome.

Elle est surtout connue pour avoir joué au cinéma dans Fanfan la Tulipe au côté de Gérard Philipe et pour avoir incarné Esmeralda le film Notre-Dame de Paris réalisé par Jean Delannoy en 1956.

Après avoir connu un grand succès au cinéma, des années 1950 à 1970, elle se tourne vers la photographie et la sculpture et joue principalement pour la télévision dans les années 1980, dans plusieurs épisodes de la série Falcon Crest notamment.

Biographie

Famille et jeunesse

Issue d'une modeste famille du milieu ouvrier contrainte de quitter sa province pour Rome, Gina Lollobrigida se montre très attirée par le milieu artistique et devient étudiante à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts.

Premier pas d'actrice et concours de beauté

En 1945, elle joue un rôle dans la comédie Santarellina par Eduardo Scarpetta au Teatro della Concordia de Monte Castello di Vibio (Italie), le plus petit théâtre à l'italienne du monde. Elle se voit confier le rôle principal dans un roman-photo qui va la faire remarquer par le milieu cinématographique. Elle participe également à des concours de beauté ; en 1947, elle termine deuxième au concours de Miss Rome et troisième à celui de Miss Italie derrière Lucia Bosè et Gianna Maria Canale, deux futures étoiles du cinéma italien.
