Glen "Sonny" Gammill, 88, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Forest Hill Baptist Church with Brother Hershel Smith and Brother Walt Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.
Sonny was married to his loving wife, Vivian "V" Hawthorne Gammill for 68 years. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and belonged to the San Jacinto Masonic Lodge as a Mason and Shriner.
Sonny retired from Pantex and also was a minister, having served as pastor of Washburn Baptist Church in Washburn; Bethel Baptist in Tucumcari, N.M.; Southside Baptist in Canyon; and recently as associate pastor of Forest Hill Baptist Church.
After retirement, he helped work on his sister's ranch in Clarendon and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian "V" Gammill; two daughters, Yvonne Henry and Glenda Gammill, both of Amarillo; a sister, Ella Sandefer of Amarillo; three grandchildren, David Henry and wife Dara of Enid, Okla.; and Debra Burnett and husband Gary and Cindy Vinson and husband Jason, all of Amarillo; and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Forest Hill Baptist Church, 1021 N. Apache St., Amarillo, TX 79107.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
