About Gordian III, Roman Emperor
He became emperor as successor to Pupienus and Balbinus, the emperors appointed by the Senate who briefly succeeded Gordian's grandfather Gordian I. He died in 244 CE and was succeeded by Philip the Arab. Gordian was a popular emperor, and was deified following his death.
He was the son of Antonia Gordiana and an unnamed Roman Senator who died before 238. His father's identity is unknown, but is shown here as reconstructed by David Hughes.
