Guillaume MOREL — (ca 1654 - 1725)
Pioneer Guillaume Morel passed away this day, January 19th, 1725, at Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré, Québec.
Guillaume arrived in New France around 1675 and married Catherine Pelletier in 1679. They had six children. Catherine passed away of an unknown illness in 1690; two months later Guillaume married Marie Barrette. Guillaume and Marie had eleven children.
Around the time of Guillaume's second marriage he was named "fiscal procurer for the district of the Beaupré coast ... charged with carrying out the public administration of the seigneurial court."
Guillaume's eldest child Françoise married widower Louis Tremblay in 1706. Louis had six children at the time (and married twice more after Françoise's passing in 1715). Second daughter Anne also married a widower, Charles Gariépy, who had three children at the time of their marriage. Anne herself appears not to have had children.
Guillaume's notable descendants include celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse and novelist Michel Tremblay.
