GUY [V] de Laval (-1210). "Guido Lavallensis dominuS " relinquished the parish of la Gravelle to Marmoutier, with the advice of "fratris mei Hamonis, et uxoris mee Agathe et filiorum meorum Guidonis atque Sicilie", by charter dated to [1142/85][419]. "Guidonis filii mei…" consented to the donation by "Guido de Lavalle" to Sainte-Trinité de Fougères by charter dated 1180[420]. He succeeded his father as Sire de Laval. "Guido sextus de Lavalle" donated property to Bellebranche abbey by charter dated 1186[421]. "Guido junior de Lavalle" confirmed donations to Clermont abbey by charter dated 1194, on the burial day of "avunculi mei Hamonis"[422]. "Mauritius de Credone filius Hugonis" appointed "Guido de Laval…et Havis uxor eius" as guardians of his children and his lands, in the case of the death of his wife, in his undated testament when leaving for Jerusalem, and provided for their inheritance of his lands if he died without male heirs[423]. "Guido sextus dominus Lavallensis" ratified a donation by "patris mei" to the canons of "castellilo Lavallensi", by charter dated 1208, witnessed by "…Emma matre mea, Hayoisia uxore mea…"[426]. m as her first husband, AVOISE de Craon Dame de Craon et de Châtelais, daughter of MAURICE [II] Sire de Craon & his wife Isabelle de Meulan (-1230). Her first marriage is confirmed by the Testa de Nevill which includes a writ of King John dated 1212 which records that "Mauricius de Creon" gave "Waletun…hundredum de Waletun" in Surrey to "Gwidoni de la Val cum filia sua"[428]. "Robertus comes d´Alencon et dominus Lavallis et Emma uxor eius filia Guidonis de Lavalle et hæres Lavallis" exchanged property with "Yvoni Franco et dominæ Haoys uxori suæ" by charter dated Feb 1216[433]. "Matheus de Montemorenciaco, conestabularius Franciæ et Emma, eius uxor, comitissa de Alanconio et domina Lavallensis" ratified a donation by "dominus Ivo Francus et uxor eius Advisia de Lavalle" to Bellebranche, for the salvation of "domini Guydonis de Lavalle" and for "Hugonis filii sui", by charter dated 1218[434]. Guy V de Laval

Guy V de Laval (died 1210) Lord of Laval, Mayenne.[1]

He was the son of Guy IV de Laval and Emma de Dunstanville. He married Avoise de Craon (died 1230), daughter of Maurice II de Craon. They had issue:

• Guy VI de Laval known as Guyonnet de Laval (died 1211)
• Ozanne, mentioned in a charter of Réau Abbey, cited by Charles Maucourt de Bourjolly[2]
• Emma de Laval (about 1200 - 27 April 1264) who inherited the title in 1211 on the death of her brother Guyonnet.
• Isabeau (Isabelle) de Laval (died 1244) who married Bouchard VI de Montmorency.

In the charters originating from him and in those which he countersigned, he called himself the fifth Lord of Laval of his name, not the seventh, as Blondel wrote, nor the fourth, as seen by Père Anselme: Ego Guido quintus, dominus de Lavalle.

Complaints about his harassment of the Abbey of Marmoutier and the domains it possessed in the district of Laval were referred to Pope Eugene III. On Guy's refusal to make good the damage done, the pontiff ordered Guillaume Passavant, Bishop of Mans, to excommunicate him and to ban his land; an act exercised in 1150.[3] Guy, having had the censures lifted in 1152, founded Clermont Abbey in the same year, in conjunction with his mother and wife, for men of the Order of Cîteaux, and granted it a thousand arpents in pasture, arable land, and woodland.

Henry, his brother-in-law, duke of Normandy and of Aquitaine, and Count of Anjou and Maine, came to the throne of England in 1154 and named him Regent and Lieutenant-General of the provinces of Anjou and Maine. In 1170 he founded, in the chapel of his castle, twelve prebends, and had this confirmed by the bishop Guillaume; subsequently ratified in 1185 by Pope Lucius III. In 1208 this chapter was transferred to Saint Tugal de Laval, and augmented by six prebends.

No ancient monument remains to indicate the year of death of Count Guy V.

• The House of Laval is a family of barons, later counts, coming from the town of Laval, located in Northwestern France, part of the province of Maine before the French Revolution. The Laval were one of the most powerful families of Maine during the Middle Ages and also had a presence in Brittany, where their prestige was similar to the one of the Rohan. The House of Laval played a significant role in Breton history and during the Hundred Years War and the French Wars of Religion. They also favored the French Renaissance in Northwestern France, building several châteaux. The last male heir died during the 17th century, and his possessions went to the House of La Trémoille.
